Psst…What We Loved in September

by Remodelista Team

Welcome to Psst, where each month the Remodelista and Gardenista editors share an inside look at what we’ve been reading, watching, coveting, pinning, visiting, and otherwise loving lately. Without further ado, a glimpse of what we’ve been up to in September:

Photographs by editors, except where noted.

Restaurant Daphne Copenhagen Photograph by Margot Guralnick Above: “On a recent Scandinavian vacation, my husband and I headed straight to Restaurant Daphne, star chef Frederik Bille Brahe’s just-opened canteen. It’s rightfully known as the coolest new kitchen in Copenhagen, and we are still dreaming about his deconstructed artichoke.” – Margot Guralnick
BAINA Towels Interior Above: “Lately I’ve been loving our bath towels from Baina, the New Zealand towel brand from Bailey Meredith. I like the ivory set for the bath but have long been curious about some of the more bold patterns for the beach—next summer maybe.” – Alexa; photograph from Baina
The Egret and the Buffalo Solveig Fernlund and Milah Libin Above: “I was really excited to see that longtime Remodelista friend and architect Solveig Fernlund co-wrote and illustrated a children’s book called The Egret and The Buffalo with Milah Libin. It’s a story of the symbiotic relationship between a family of egrets feasting on bugs that pester a family of gentle buffalo—with graphic illustrations by Libin and watercolors by Fernlund. You can order it through their publisher Dizzy Books.” – Alexa Hotz; illustration from The Egret and The Buffalo
Niwaki Pop-Up Nickey Kehoe Laura Fenton Above: “I recently visited Niwaki’s ‘pop up’ at Nickey Kehoe in NYC. The store has greatly expanded their selection of Niwaki products and it was so fun to see them in person—and to meet the founder Jake, whom I interviewed for Gardenista last year.” – Laura Fenton
Naturepedic Organic Pillows Above: “In an effort to optimize sleep during this busy fall season, I recently did a pillow re-up. I’m a longtime adherent of latex pillows, particularly the sort you can adjust yourself by adding or removing fill. I bought these from Naturepedic which I love for both bedding and children’s mattresses.” – Alexa Hotz; photograph from Naturepedic
Kauai Photo by Fan Winston Above: “We were in Kauai a couple weeks before Hurricane Lowell devastated the island. We stayed at 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay, which is situated in the most breathtaking location. It reopens this weekend, but I imagine the rest of the island is still far from a full recovery. If you’re interested in helping, consider donating here.” – Fan Winston
The Falls Photo by Nick Spain Above: “Recently, I was taken by these electric blue curtain tiebacks from the 1940s at a new (to me) store, The Falls, which sells found an up-cycled pieces made in collaboration with Indian artisans.” – Nick Spain
IKEA Footstool Slipcover Above: “As part of my quest to make my sofa as comfy as possible, I’ve been in pursuit of a new ottoman. I had four criteria: Must be small boned for a small space. No leather. Under $250. And, ideally, with some hidden storage. Happy to report Ikea’s Strandmon fit the bill: $150 and it fits two sets of feet. But what makes it is this pretty slipcover—I love the pattern.” – Annie Quigley; photograph from Ikea
Woodland Mod Adam Szafranski Above: “Woodland Mod is a beautifully curated home goods store in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood, filled with everything from kitchen essentials and tabletop finds to thoughtful decor and gear for the garden.” – Adam Szafranski
